The founders of Stepping Stones are Mark and Jacolien. In the late nineties, early 2000, they were involved in a churchplant in Nieuw-Vennep (NL). This was the start of their process to think about different ways to be church, and how they can be more outward-looking.
This has led them both to pick up a study in Pastoral Care, to form a basis for what was to come. During their studies, they ended up in Rotterdam and became involved with Crossroads church in Rotterdam. Mark as a paid member of the staff and Jacolien as volunteer.
In 2008, Mark and Jacolien had a strong impression that their time in Rotterdam was coming to an end. They started Stepping Stones without knowing exactly what they were going to do. Soon, they came in contact with Mike Breen and his organization 3DM, who was active in both the United Kingdom and the United States in buidling communities. Long story short, Mark and Jacolien lived in England from 2012 until 2017, as part of 3DM Europe and Network Church Sheffield. During that period, they started their own community, coached other (church)leaders, had several adults living with them in a year of ‘Discipleship Immersion’ and wrote the book ‘Stepping Stones to a day to day missional lifestyle’. The contents of this book is the basis of their current coaching and the work of their foundation.
Since 2018, they live in Gouda (NL) and in 2019 started with Stepping Stones Gouda. Jacolien works as coach of volunteers of foundation Timon and as self employed coach through Original Coaching. Mark is an IT application manager for foundation UAF.
