Mark and Jacolien van den Steenhoven are the founders of Stepping-stones. They are married for more than 20 year and have a passion for Jesus and his church. Their desire is that God's kingdom will be expanded and become more and more visible in our society.

They were both involved in planting a new church in the neighbourhood where they lived. This initiative, Crosspoint Nieuw Vennep, has grown to an independent church in the Dutch Reformed church in The Netherlands. In 2012, they moved to Sheffield to immerse themselves in the culture of misional discipleship and to work for 3DM Europe where they were responsible for the Coaching department. 3DM trains churches and Christian leaders for discipleship and mission in a post-Christian society. After finishing their jobs they have continued to coach and train missional leaders via Stepping-stones.

Together with Sharon Earl Mark and Jacolien lead a missional household in Sheffield where they offer a Discipleship Immersion to people who want to learn a missional lifestyle. They are part of the Network Church Sheffield and leading a missional community.

Mark worked for various (international) organizations in different roles after his education in Business Informatics. A turning point was when he went together with Jacolien for a period to the Caribbean to work as a volunteer in a rehabilitation center. Coming back in the Netherlands he decided to start a study Theology. After graduation he worked as a pastor for Crossroads Rotterdam (the Netherlands), a church for young adults and families. He was responsible for the Small Groups ministry, Pastoral care and Mission/Evangelism. Along side that he also was co-initiator of developing missional communities and responsible for its implementation. Mark loves playing football every week in the park with people from the community and he started to play golf.

Jacolien has studied Small Business management and Social-Cultural Sciences and worked about 10 years as a Human Resouces advisor for both profit and non-profit organizations. A turning point was when she went together with Mark for a period to the Caribbean to work as a volunteer in a rehabilitation center. Coming back in the Netherlands she decided to start a study Theology and Social Work. After graduation she worked as Social Worker and Pastoral Counselor to help people to grow in their identity, relationships and overcome blockages like grief and loss. In recent years Jacolien is specialized in Myers Briggs, a tool for personality analysis and she works as a life coach. Jacolien loves walking and making photos from nature and people.
